New Year! 🎇 New Me?

Happy New Year! 2021 is finally here... I know that for most, the year 2020 was... a rough one, but in my time of prayer and meditation, I came to realize that, although 2020 was a rough year, God still blessed you and I to cross over into 2021 so for that alone, 2020 wasn't so bad because God saw fit to keep us here and that is a major blessing in itself. This is the time where most people start preparing and sharing their New Year resolution(s). Well i'll let you in on something, I haven't made a New Year resolution in years.... I mean.... personally, I don't care to because I feel that once my mind is made up commit to a goal(s), I just go for it. So, resolutions are non-existent for me Lol! New year, new me... hmmm.... I know this is a phrase that most of us at some point have spoken, written down, posted, taken a pic of, glued/taped to our new year vision boards or just shared in general conversation with someone. We say this slogan as if it is the catalyst to pushing us to success in whatever area of our lives we feel we need it most, while on the other hand, some just repeat this phrase just to pose as "I'm changing" to other people and there's nothing wrong with that. However, some phrases can be a dead phrase when you are speaking it but not actively acting upon it or working towards it. By then, it's only lip service.

There's nothing wrong with the "new year, new me" talk when you don't just wait for the clock to strike 12am... you start immediately, for some of us, even before the new year presents itself. I had to learn that saying things and actually doing it, makes a huge difference and why wait until the new year arrives to make that change, to give your life over to christ, to start that business, write that book, write that song, start that new job, buy that house go back to school or whatever it is you desire, if God has given you the mindset and provisions for it, then start right where you are. I'm sure most of us have something that we can share about the year of 2020 and how it has affected each of us in some minor and some major ways. Since you're reading this, then I'm here to tell you that 2020 wasn't so bad afterall because by the grace of God, you made it over. God kept you, He provided for you, He kept you in your right mind even when you thought you'd lose it, God was there. So, I say to you, please don't curse 2020, for simple fact that yes, you've been through it, shucks, we all have but you made it over. Now that 2021 is here, you can look back and say these familiar phrases and I know they'll have a totally new meaning now, "I don't look like what I've been through", "I made it", "God kept me", or just sing this simple song, "when I look back over my life & I think things over, I can truly say, that I've been Blessed, I have a testimony "!

So when you think "new year, new me" actually think about what you want this phrase to mean to you and in your life. Could that new year new me mean that you are going to forgive more quickly, practice self-control, make healthier eating choices, actually lose the weight/exercise consistently, love others just as God loves us (without condition), take more risks and stop procrastinating, live in faith more and not in fear, trust God more and actually put Him first and keep Him first, meditate & pray more, study the bible more etc.? You know the areas you identify with that fits your new year, new me daily affirmations. I encourage us to choose to go and grow in the direction of success and purpose and we will began to see the fruits we planted as we put in the work of truly becomming that, "new me" in the "new year" and hopefully remain committed all year long. I know that it's January 2, 2021 so, let's start now. Some of us have already started.

Don't allow past hurts, failures, unanswered questions, and confusion of 2020 keep you from moving forward. Don't carry that 2020 spirit into 2021. That can be like taking soiled clothes out of your hamper and placing them into your drawer of new clothes... that would stink up everything right and honestly, it doesn't make any sense to do such a thing LOL! There is a parable in the bible that talks about putting new wine into old wine skins... Mark 2:22, ESV: "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins—and the wine is destroyed, and so are the skins. But new wine is for fresh wineskins.” I love this scripture because it is simply saying that taking something of old or something from the past into the future and trying to get it to make sense will just make things worse. It's like carrying baggage into the new year. Leave that baggage right their in baggage claim.

Singles, this section ia especially for you. In this new year, write out that vision (as God tells us, write the vision & make it plain), create that vision board, and set your goals, daily journal if you must just to stay on track and organized with things. Don't be afraid to take those risks towards accomplishing your goals. God has plans for your life and as my Bishop always says, "those plans include taking care of you" and might I add to that, those plans also mean blessing you to the good success He promised in His word. Singles, I encourage you to keep moving forward, remember don't settle, you're worth more than settling for and with someone who is not designed for you. Work your you, remember, the more you focus on your purposes, goals, and God's will for your life, the less you will be overwhelmed with "being single". This year, choose to date smart, don't be anxious, really be patient this time, put God first in your singleness and dating life. Date smart and not desperate. Choose your self-worth over self-pity when things just don't work out. Overall, continue to pray and wait, and embrace your singleness.

*Please share this with someone, and anyone that is single.*

Happy New Year! 🎇

I pray God's favor be upon you!

Much love, peace, & blessings,

Demetria
